Mechanism of action

Fluorouracil is an antimetabolite that acts as an uracil analogue. It inhibits thymidylate synthase, thus interfering with DNA synthesis in rapidly dividing cells, forcing cell death in the affected skin lesions.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Pregnancy: Contraindicated; causes fetal malformation. Breastfeeding: Not recommended.
