Mechanism of action
Fluconazole inhibits the fungal cytochrome P450 enzyme 14-alpha-demethylase. This disruption prevents the synthesis of ergosterol, a vital component of the fungal cell membrane, thereby inhibiting fungal growth.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Pregnancy: Avoid unless deemed essential. Breastfeeding: Use with caution as it is excreted in breast milk.
