Mechanism of action

Danazol acts as a synthetic ethisterone derivative with antigonadotrophic activity. It suppresses the pituitary-ovarian axis by inhibiting follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinising hormone (LH), reducing oestradiol production and inducing a state of pseudomenopause.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Pregnancy: Contraindicated; potential for virilisation of female fetus. Breastfeeding: Contraindicated.
