Mechanism of action
Mycophenolate mofetil is a prodrug that is converted to mycophenolic acid. It inhibits the enzyme inosine monophosphate dehydrogenase, thereby blocking the de novo pathway of guanosine nucleotide synthesis required for lymphocyte proliferation.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Pregnancy: Use is contraindicated as it may cause congenital malformations and pregnancy loss. Breastfeeding: Contraindicated.
