Patient summary
Arimidex is developed to target hormone-dependent breast cancer and is formulated to alleviate tumour progression.
Mechanism of action
This medicine acts as a potent and selective non-steroidal aromatase inhibitor. It lowers circulating oestrogen levels in post-menopausal women by blocking the enzyme responsible for the peripheral conversion of androgens into oestrogens, thereby limiting the growth of hormone-sensitive tumours.
