Mechanism of action

Mefenamic acid inhibits the cyclo-oxygenase (COX) enzymes, which are responsible for the synthesis of prostaglandins. By reducing prostaglandin production, it diminishes inflammation and pain signals.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Avoid, particularly in the third trimester due to risk of closure of foetal ductus arteriosus.
