Patient summary

indicated to manage fluid retention through increased sodium and water excretion in the kidneys.

Mechanism of action

Esidrix works by inhibiting the reabsorption of sodium and chloride in the distal convoluted tubules of the kidney. This increases the excretion of sodium, water, and potassium, which reduces total blood volume and thereby lowers blood pressure and relieves oedema associated with congestive heart failure.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Pregnancy: Not recommended due to potential neonatal side effects. Breastfeeding: Avoid as it may suppress lactation.
