Mechanism of action
Tizanidine is a centrally acting alpha-2 adrenergic agonist. It reduces spasticity by increasing presynaptic inhibition of motor neurons. By acting on the spinal cord, it decreases the excitability of muscle neurones, thereby reducing muscle tone without weakening muscle strength.
