Patient summary

Developed to target inflammation in the airways, intended to support the management of persistent asthma and allergic rhinitis by blocking leukotrienes.

Mechanism of action

Montelukast is a leukotriene receptor antagonist. It selectively blocks the action of cysteinyl leukotrienes in the lungs, which are inflammatory mediators released in response to inhaled allergens, thereby preventing airway constriction and swelling.
