Patient summary

Indicated to support cognitive function in attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, formulated to address executive dysfunction and alleviate impulsivity during daily activities.

Mechanism of action

Atomoxetine acts as a selective inhibitor of the presynaptic norepinephrine transporter. By preventing the reuptake of norepinephrine, it increases the neurotransmitter's concentration in the synaptic cleft, particularly in the prefrontal cortex, thereby enhancing attention and impulse control.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Not recommended during pregnancy unless clearly necessary. Consult a physician regarding breastfeeding.
