Mechanism of action
Finasteride is a competitive and specific inhibitor of type II 5-alpha reductase, an intracellular enzyme that converts the androgen testosterone into the more potent 5-alpha-dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Reducing DHT levels stops further hair loss.
